A Chemical Peel is a fabulous option for those looking to help reduce or improve fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, pigmentation, keratosis and certain types of acne. The Peels used at Privée are superficial to medium in depth.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A Chemical Peel is an active solution that is applied to the skin to accelerate the skin’s natural exfoliation in a controlled way, so that new skin can grow in its place. Professional peels can be applied to the face, neck, décolleté, hands and other body parts.

They are treatment options for the following skin concerns:

Skin ageing

• Renew cell generation
• Boost the stimulation of collagen and elastin

Acne

• Reduce acne lesions
• Treat mild and moderate acne

Pigmentation disorders

• Reduce pigmented lesions
• Treat lentigines - senile/solar (benign legions that occur on the sun exposed areas of the body)

Keratosis

• Treat actinic keratosis (a rough, scaly patch on the skin that develops from years of sun exposure)
• Prevent pre-cancerous lesions
• Improve keratosis pilaris skin condition (rough patches and small, acne-like bumps on the skin, commonly called ‘chicken skin’)

Types of Chemical Peels

Superficial Peels: Acid combinations to target skin concerns such as acne and premature signs of ageing by penetrating only the upper layer of the epidermis. This peel is developed to be used on a regular basis to help maintain healthy looking skin.

Medium Peels: Advanced and innovative acid combinations to target deeper skin concerns such as advanced signs of ageing and pigmentation including melasma, senile lentigines and actinic keratosis. Medium depth peels target deeper into the dermis and can achieve more obvious results.

What does a Chemical Peel feel like? Does it hurt?

There's a common misconception that chemical peels hurt and the side effects are severe. However that is not entirely true, each person will react differently to skin treatments like chemical peels, but generally the side effects should be mild, and healing will likely be completed within two weeks.

Common side effects can include:

  • Mild stinging sensation
  • Mild tingling sensation
  • Redness
  • Mild skin irritation
  • Dryness or flaking for the first few days
  • Blistering
  • Skin photosensitivity
  • Hyper or hypopigmentation (rare)
