MEDICAL AESTHETICS:

Wrinkle Reduction

For the last 30 years, wrinkle reduction treatments have been used for a wide range of ailments, from Cerebral Palsy in children, to twitching eyes and strabismus. It was from treating strabismus in the eye area that medical pioneers, Dr. Jean and Alistair Carruthers, discovered that a side effect of the treatment was a reduction of wrinkles in this area.

Wrinkle Reduction

Wrinkle reduction treatments work by minimising lines caused from excessive and repeated facial expressions and muscle contraction. The treatment is also effective when used as a preventative measure.

Individual results may vary. A consultation before the first treatment is required, so please notify us of any health conditions or medical history during this appointment. This information will ensure your individual needs are assessed and that tailored advice is provided to you.

How does it work?

Anti-wrinkle treatments work by blocking nerve impulses needed for muscle contraction. Once the muscle is inhibited, the muscle cannot be contracted and the undesirable facial expression is reduced or eliminated.

How long does it take to work?

Normally it takes 2-3 days for the onset of action, with optimal results seen at 14 days. The treatment usually lasts between 3 – 4 months depending on the area and dosage.

Which areas can be treated?

For the treatment of wrinkles, the most common areas to treat on the face are the frown lines (between the eyes), the crows feet (around the eyes) and the horizontal lines on the brow.

Anti-wrinkle treatments can also be used in the lower face for a variety of indications. These areas and indications include:

CHIN: Occasionally the chin is quite bulky or can have an orange peel appearance on the surface of the skin. This is caused by an overactive mentalis (chin) muscle. Treatment in this area can be used to relax the muscle, smooth out the skin and reduce the crease that appears on the chin.

JAW FOR FACIAL SLIMMING OR EXCESSIVE TEETH GRINDING (BRUXISM): A square jaw on a female can appear very masculine, this bulky appearance of the masseter muscle on either side of the jaw can be due to genetics or teeth grinding. In this area, the face may be slimmed down and a more oval face shape may be achieved. For patients who are chronic teeth grinders or suffer from TMJ, it is a good treatment to avoid wearing away the teeth enamel and can reduce headaches due to excessive teeth clenching and grinding.

DOWNWARD SLOPING MOUTH / SAD FACE: As we age, the muscles around the mouth can cause the mouth to be pulled down at the edges.. By using Medical Aesthetics in the Depressor Anguli Oris (DAO) muscle area, we can relax these overactive depressor muscles.

UPPER LIP FOR THE LIP FLIP OR VERTICAL LIP LINES: Vertical lines on the top lip (smokers lines) are most common in women.Talking, smoking and drinking all cause us to purse our lips contributing to the upper lip lines or lipstick bleeds. Cosmetic Aesthetics can be used in this area to alleviate this problem.

NECK / NEFERTITI LIFT: The platysmal muscle covers the neck and extends over the lower part of the jawline and lower face. As we age, vertical bands can appear on the neck either at rest or as we talk. The platysmal muscle also distorts the jawline when it contracts, preventing that razor sharp angle on the jawline. Relaxing this muscle can improve jowling in the lower face and make the platysmal bands disappear.

GUMMY SMILE: Occasionally some people have overactive muscles around the mouth and nose, which cause their lip to contract excessively in an upward direction showing too much gum when smiling. Cosmetic Aesthetics can be used to correct this.

Will it be painful?

The treatment is relatively painless and is over very quickly.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are minimal with the most common being headache, bruising and red marks directly after. Rare and temporary side effects include double vision, dry eyes, eyelid and brow ptosis. Infection is also rare.

As results may vary, we recommend a follow-up appointment 2 weeks post-treatment to discuss your tailored treatment results.

For the last 30 years neurotoxins have been used for a wide range of ailments, from Cerebral Palsy in children, to twitching eyes and strabismus. It was from treating strabismus in the eye area that Medical pioneers, Dr. Jean and Alistair Carruthers, discovered that a side effect of the drug was elimination of wrinkles. What a discovery!

Neurotoxins are now the gold standard treatment in elimination of wrinkles caused from excessive and repeated facial expressions and muscle movement. It is a safe and effective treatment with no downtime used by millions of people worldwide.

How Does It Work?

Anti-wrinkle injections work by blocking nerve impulses needed for muscle contraction. Once the muscle is inhibited, the muscle cannot be contracted and the undesirable facial expression is reduced or eliminated.

How Long Does It Take to Work?

Normally takes 2-3 days to work with optimal results seen after 7-14 days. It usually lasts between 3 – 4 months.

Which Areas Can Be Treated?

For the treatment of wrinkles, the most common areas to treat on the face are the frown lines (between the eyes), the crows feet (around the eyes) and the horizontal lines on the brow.

Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used in the lower face for variety of indications. These areas and indications include:

CHIN: Occasionally the chin is quite bulky or can have an orange peel appearance on the surface of the skin. This is caused by an overactive mentalis (chin) muscle. Neurotoxins can be used to relax the muscle, smooth out the skin and reduce the crease that appears on the chin.

JAW FOR FACIAL SLIMMING OR EXCESSIVE TEETH GRINDING (BRUXISM): A square jaw on a female can appear very masculine, this bulky appearance of the masseter muscle on either side of the jaw can be due to genetics or teeth grinding. By using a neurotoxin in this area, the face can be slimmed down and a more oval face shape can be achieved. For patients who are chronic teeth grinders or suffer from TMJ, it is a good treatment to avoid wearing away the teeth enamel and reduce headaches due to excessive teeth clenching and grinding.

DOWNWARD SLOPING MOUTH / SAD FACE: As we age the muscles around the mouth can cause the mouth to be pulled down at the edges, making for a sad looking face. By injecting neurotoxin into the Depressor Anguli Oris (DAO) muscle, we can relax these overactive depressor muscles and create a more youthful looking mouth.

UPPER LIP FOR THE LIP FLIP OR VERTICAL LIP LINES: Vertical lines on the top lip (smokers lines) are most common in women and can be very ageing. Talking, smoking and drinking all cause us to purse our lips contributing to the upper lip lines or lipstick bleeds. Neurotoxins can be used in this area to alleviate this problem. The lip flip is a popular treatment which helps evert the upper lip and allows for more of the vermillion (red part of lip) to show, without the need for injecting fillers. It is a simple way to subtly increase the height of the lip and also reduce the amount of gum that may show when smiling.

NECK / NEFERTITI LIFT: The platysmal muscle covers the neck and extends over the lower part of the jawline and lower face. As we age, vertical bands can appear on the neck either at rest or as we talk. The platysmal muscle also distorts the jawline when it contracts preventing that razor sharp angle on the jawline. Relaxing this muscle can improve jowling in the lower face and make the platysmal bands disappear.

GUMMY SMILE: Occasionally some people have overactive muscles around the mouth and nose, which cause their lip to contract excessively in an upward direction showing too much gum when smiling. To correct this excessive gummy smile, neurotoxin can be injected at the top of the nasolabial fold next to the nose, where the Levator Labii Superioris Alaeque Nasi (LLSAN) muscle is located. This reduction in gum results in a more aesthetically pleasing smile.

Will It Be Painful?

The injections are relatively painless and are over very quickly. Most people can tolerate the injections comfortably. A very fine needle is used to ensure maximal comfort. Ice can be used if the patient prefers.

Are There Any Side Effects?

There are side effects with any medical treatment, however they are minimal. There is a risk of bruising, infection, headache, double vision and eyelid and brow ptosis (all of these are very rare and temporary).

I don't want to have the frozen look. I just want to be rejuvenated. Is that possible?

Yes definitely. The aim of our treatment is to give you the most natural look possible. We want your friends and family to say you look refreshed not overdone! This is why at Privée we formulate a specialised treatment plan tailored to you, taking into consideration the look you want to achieve.
