MEDICAL AESTHETICS:

Facial Contouring & Volumisation

As we age our face changes in many ways. The underlying bony facial structure changes and we develop bone loss in certain areas of the face which in turn results in an aged appearance. At the same time we also begin to lose fat from our faces. The most common areas where this occurs is in the cheek and mouth area.

MEDICAL AESTHETICS:

Facial Contouring & Volumisation

Because we no longer have the fat plumping out the tissues, the skin begins to droop leading to the development of jowls and a tired sunken face. Our once elastic and perfectly plumped skin is now drooping and in need of rejuvenation.

At Privée Clinic we only use the best Medical Aesthetic Treatments to ensure the most natural and long lasting results. Individual results may vary. A consultation before the first treatment is required, so please notify us of any health conditions or medical history during this appointment. This information will ensure your individual needs are assessed and that tailored advice is provided to you.

Which areas can be treated?

Medical aesthetics can be used almost anywhere on the face to correct volume loss and fill lines. This includes cheeks, temples, lips, lip lines, marionette lines, nasolabial folds and jawline. Medical aesthetics can also be used in the hands and neck.

How long does it last?

Generally the treatment can last anywhere between 6 months to 2 years. For example on larger areas such as the cheeks, a highly robust medical aesthetic is used which lasts about 2 years whereas a lighter medical aesthetic for an area such as the lips will last approximately 6-9 months.

Will it be painful?

The medical aesthetic contains a local anesthetic so is relatively painless. Ice or topical anesthetic can also be used if the patient wishes.

What are the side effects?

As with any medical treatment there are some general side effects - bruising, swelling, redness may occur. Very rare is infection, necrosis of the skin, blindness, migration of the product to another area. Lumps may be felt under the skin however these usually resolve within a week or two after the treatment has settled.

Is It reversible?

Yes. If for some reason you don’t like the treatment, then it can be dissolved.

Is there anything I can do to prevent bruising?

No matter how careful and gentle the practitioner, sometimes bruising can happen. The face is highly vascular but there are a few things you can do beforehand to minimise the chance of bruising.

Avoid drinking alcohol before and after the treatment.

Avoid taking aspirin, Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba, anti-inflammatories (Nurofen) and fish oil for 3 days before the treatment. Seek advice from your doctor before ceasing blood thinners such as warfarin or other blood thinners.

A herbal preparation called arnica which is available from most pharmacies can be taken before and after the treatment. It is available in tablet, sublingual and topical cream preparations.

I have fixed the wrinkles but what can I do about my overall complexion?

Sun damaged skin (photo-ageing) can also contribute to looking old beyond your years. Medical aesthetics are great for addressing wrinkles and volume loss however skin texture is another important factor in having a youthful appearance.

Sun damage caused by UV radiation from the sun, free radical damage from pollution, smoking, ill health and dehydration can all take their toll on the skin’s complexion. The cell turnover of our skin slows down with age. This can cause our skin to appear dull and lifeless. By using various skin treatments like a chemical peel, Radio Frequency (RF), Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or skin needling, we can stimulate the production of collagen and increase cell turnover giving an improved appearance.

Individual results may vary. A consultation before the first treatment is required, so please notify us of any health conditions or medical history during this appointment. This information will ensure your individual needs are assessed and that tailored advice is provided to you.

...In the last few years we have seen a shift in the use of dermal fillers. When they first came onto the market, injectors concentrated on individual lines and wrinkles, nasolabial folds in particular. Over time it became apparent that filling a single wrinkle did not provide a beneficial outcome for the face as a whole. It may have reduced the individual wrinkle itself but the patient was often left with the same tired, ageing face.

The focus has now shifted from wrinkle filling to a process called pan facial rejuvenation. This entails using filler to correct and support the underlying facial structures and to restore lost volume resulting in soft youthful curves. The focus is now about fixing the broader problem instead of an individual symptom.

Cue our hero to the rescue – dermal fillers!

At Privée Cosmetic Clinic we only use the best dermal fillers to ensure the most natural and long lasting results. All our dermal fillers also come with local anaesthetic which means it is a relatively painless experience overall.

Which Areas Can Be Filled?

Filler can be used almost anywhere in the face to correct volume loss and fill lines. This includes cheeks, temples, lips, lip lines, marionette lines, nasolabial folds and jawline. Filler can also be used in the hands.

How Long Does It Last?

This depends on which filler is used. Generally the filler can last anywhere between 6 months- 2 years. For example on larger areas such as the cheeks a highly robust filler is used which lasts about 2 years whereas a lighter filler for an area such as the lips will last approximately 6-9 months.

Will It Be Painful?

The filler contains a local anaesthetic so after the first few injections is relatively painless. Ice or topical anaesthetic can also be used if the patient wishes. A dental block can also be used when treating the lips. This makes the whole mouth completely numb.

Is It Safe?

Yes. The filler is made from a sugar that naturally occurs in the matrix of our skin. It is this sugar that gives our skin its volume. Allergic reaction is extremely rare.

What Are the Other Side Effects?

As with any medical treatment there are some general side effects -bruising, swelling, redness and infection may occur. Very rare is necrosis of the skin, migration of the product to another area. Lumps may be felt under the skin however these usually resolve within a week or two after the filler has settled.

Is It Reversible?

Yes. If for some reason you don’t like the filler then it can be dissolved
